The “Fourd” Seasons—Carhenge

The “Fourd” Seasons—Carhenge

We spent a few rainy, chilly May days in the Nebraska panhandle, but the weather cooperated enough that we were able to check out Carhenge and Scotts Bluff National Monument.

Carhenge was built with 39 autos set up to mimic Stonehenge, and it’s 96 feet in diameter. It was a bit of a drive, as it’s in the middle of nowhere, but it was a pretty neat attraction.

We stayed at Lake Minatare State Recreation Area, which had few campers, because it was still the off-season in May. It made for a quiet stay! Craig climbed to the top of a lighthouse overlooking the lake. The lighthouse was built in the 1930’s by the Veterans Conservation Corp. as a shelter and observation tower.

Scotts Bluff Nat’l. Monument was an interesting historical landmark, teaching about the pioneers. We drove to the top and walked a short trail with an expansive view of the Nebraska plains.
